The news was short and agonizing. Abolfazl Abedini, the Human Rights activist and member of Pan-Iranist Party, has been sentenced to eleven years of imprisonment.
He was in charge of pubic relations of Human Rights in Iran, and time and again, he has been accustomed to bitter taste of confinement either in Tehran or in Khuzestan, but he never abandoned his desire of freedom and prosper for Iran, for an instant.
I met Abedini once in Tehran. He was a thin and slender young man with inexplicable courage and bravery. But I am still having a grim time to swallow this sentence. Truthfully for what crime???
By virtue of what the youths on this land are condemned to such an extensive sentences in the prison? We have not forgotten Majid Tavakoli. Eight years of imprisonment for what? The answer that the coup d’etats would never have.
With the belief that most of these sentences will not last the for the adequacy of the life of the Coup government, still it is hard to comprehend with such an excessive callous sentence.
I do not know in what fervent situation his mother and brother are. What has his angelic mother done beside raising a patriot and handing him over to the society, who does not silence for injustice and inequity. I do not know what he is going to do when he hears his sentence. Or better what can he do? It is unsparing, very unsparing.
