HRANA: Abolfazl Abedini’s Perilous Condition in Ahwaz Karoon Prison

HRA News Agency: Abolfazl Abedini, journalist and human rights activist, who has been sentenced to 11 years of confinement by Ahwaz Revolutionary Court, has been kept in a undesirable condition and is under severe pressure.

According to HRANA, Abolfazl Abedini, the Khuzestani journalist, who is kept in Section 6, Ahwaz Karoon Prison, together with dangerous murderers and drug addict prisoners, is not in an acceptable psychological conditions. His life is also in danger.

The pressures on him is to the point that he does not have access to any kind of book or newspaper. Also, his family was not able to visit him in person since his transfer to Karoon Ahwaz.

Mr. Mohammad Olyaiefard, Abolfazl Abedini’s defense attorney is imprisoned in section 350, Evin prison. Therefore his family had to retain a new attorney. After the government’s security officers were informed of this change, they started to intimidate the new attorneys, and pressuring them on not to accept is case.

Abedini’s family has requested his transfer back to Evin prison because of his special circumstances. The authorities have not tend to this request yet.

On March 3, 2010, Abolfazl Abedini Nasr, after the scenario created by security forces against human rights activists, was brutally assaulted and beaten in his family home in Ramhormoz. He was later transferred to section 2, Evin prison.

Needless to say that this former member of Iran’s human rights organization, is suffering from cardiac disease and was under cardiologist supervision before the arrest. Regarding Abolfazl’s cardiac condition, his physicians have warned the authorities about being kept in an enclosed space for a long period of time, stress, and not having any access to his medications.
